About Us

We have been owned by Newfoundlands for 33 years and we currently have a 3 year old Newfie called Murphy although we have a love for all breeds.

Over the years with all of our dogs we have played, trained, swam and worked with them in the water, and all have had different personalities and confidence levels regarding water so we would very much like to share our enthusiasm and knowledge of building up your dog’s confidence to swim in a controlled environment or in a lot of cases to even enter water!

Or maybe you simply want to let your dog have the time of their lives playing with toys and splashing around in our pool whilst being supervised.

For your peace of mind Julie has completed a CPD accredited course in canine health and first aid, as well as a dog training course accredited by IMDT.

Please note we cannot give any Health Advice.

We are located just outside of Newquay Cornwall and have lots of beautiful beaches all around us but the sea can also be extremely dangerous and unpredictable, could you spot a rip current? Do you know where it is safe to let your dog have a paddle in the sea, river or Gannel?

Our pool gives you and your dog the opportunity to swim in a controlled environment.

Lots of dogs also drink the sea water which can make them extremely sick and cause diarrhoea.

We will always have bowls of fresh water available for your dogs to have a drink throughout their session.

Our Pool

We offer dog owners a fun and exciting way for you to exercise your dogs in our 32ft x 16ft outdoor swimming pool for dogs in a controlled environment sited in a fenced off paddock.

The pool water is 4ft deep.

Our main paddock and ramps are entirely covered in pet friendly astro turf to maintain the cleanliness of the pool and to provide a consistent surface for your dogs to gain confidence.

The pool and paddock is accessed through a system of gates.

Access to the pool platform is via a long gentle ramp, or a shorter ramp with steps alongside. We have a system of gates in place to control access to the platform and options of entry to the pool.

Swimming has much lower impact on the joints than walking does so is highly effective for those who have recovered from injury or simply can’t walk too far due to age.

Please note we are NOT a replacement for hydrotherapy but swimming will help to maintain and enhance fitness following on from hydrotherapy once your dog has been signed off.

Pool Management

We manually clean the pool each day and use a filtration system that helps to keep the pool nice and clean.

We use salt water chlorination to keep our pool clean, safe, and comfortable for your furry friends. Unlike traditional chlorine systems that rely on harsh chemical additives, salt water chlorinators constantly monitor the water and use natural salt to generate just the right amount of chlorine. At less that 10% of the salt found in sea water, it's enough to santise the pool without irritating your dog's skin, eyes or nose, whilst not being salty to taste.

This system provides:

  • Consistently clean water with reduced chemical smells.
  • Softer water feel, making swim time more enjoyable.
  • Less risk of skin or coat irritation compared to traditional chlorinated pools.

Salt water chlorination is not only safer for dogs, but also more eco-friendly and easier on our skin, hair and clothing. It's just one of the many ways we prioritise your pet's health and happiness at Swim Dog.
